The Continua Gallery was founded in 1956 by the renowned antiquarian Jean-Marie in partnership with Aveline / Jean-Marie Rossi. Currently managed by Marella Rossi Mosseri, his daughter, it is located on Rue de Faubourg Saint Honoré, one of the most traditional and conservative neighborhoods of Paris.
During the opening of the Fiac in the week of arts, the gallery, known for the quality and diversity of its antique collection, presented Pascale Marthine Tayou, African artist born in 1966 in the Republic of Cameroon, who inaugurated Paradis(e), a sensitive and beautiful dialogue between the past and the present.
With a bold and sophisticated proposal, the exhibit is an encounter between powerful and provocative paintings and sculptures made of crystal, clay, plastic, wood – materials collected in the artist’s homeland – and decoration and furniture items from the eighteenth century.
Pascale Marthine Tayou spends his time between the cities of Ghent in Belgium and Yaoundé in the Republic of Cameroon, and has his name consolidated in the international contemporary art world. With works previously exhibited in the biennials of Venice, São Paulo, Istanbul, Havana, at the Pompidou Centre and Serpentine Gallery in London, the artist has been selected to participate in the commemorative opening of the Musée de l’Homme.
